AJ Burnett

Boston Massacre

On a chilly, rainy day in Boston the Yanks were completely embarrassed by the Sox to the tune of a 7-0 shutout. A.J. Burnett was a disgrace to the road grays, the offense managed a meager two hits. Boston has now tied the Yanks for the lead in the A.L. East, and hold a 6-0 advantage over the Bombers in the season series. Full story

Yanks and Rays Rained Out

Friday night's contest between the Yankees and Rays was washed away. No makeup date was announced, but Tampa will return to the Bronx Sept. 7 for a three-game set and both squads will have a day off Sept. 10. Full story

Melky's Late-Inning HR Upends Rangers

Chien-Ming Wang was ineffective in his return to the starting rotation, but Mark Teixeira doubled twice and drove in three runs in his return from a sore ankle and Melky Cabrera snapped a 6-6 tie with a two-run bomb in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Yanks toppled the Rangers 8-6 in the Bronx. Full story

You Won't Like Me When I'm Angry

Clinging to a 3-2 lead with one out in the bottom of the fourth, Vincente Padilla thought it might be a good time to throw a purpose pitch to Mark Teixeira. The ball found Tex's glute, Tex was not pleased. 15 minutes later, the Yanks led 9-2, Padilla was in the showers conditioning his mullet and the Yanks were a team united. Full story

It Had To End Eventually

When Jimmy Rollins launched the first pitch of the game over the fence in right, you knew this was going to be a long night. When the premium seats seemed to have more red t-shirts than blue, you knew you should be embarrassed. When Carlos Ruiz took Burnett deep in the second inning, you knew it was over. Full story

2 Hours, 22 Minutes

I'd like to extend a personal thank you to Roy Halladay. At least when the Yankees lose to him, I know I'm not going to have to waste a ton of time watching it. Tonight, it took him 2:22 to polish the bombers off. Full story

Yanks Rally But Rays Triumph in 10th

A.J. Burnett struck out eight through six innings and Mark Teixeira smacked a game-tying three-run double in the eighth, but Carlos Pena belted a solo homer against Phil Coke in the extra frame as the Rays subdued the Yanks 4-3 in 10 innings. Full story

CC And AJ Are Officially Yankees

The Yankees held a press conference today to unveil their two newest acquisitions, CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett. Both guys said they're here to win. Both guys seem psyched. CC said he made his mind up 10 minutes after his final meeting with Cashman. Still no movement on the defense or the lineup, however. Full story

This is the third part in a series dedicated to all things baseball. Questions have be posed and answers have been given. Burnett Is A Yankee

The Yankees have reportedly come to terms with A.J. Burnett on a 5-year deal worth $82.5M, according to Jerry Crasnick. My feelings on the matter haven't changed. This is a guy who's only thrown 200 innings thrice in his 8 years in the league. Twice, those performances came in walk years. If he doesn't have Carl Pavano written all over him, I don't know who does. Full story

A slew of rumors this afternoon about CC Sabathia. They range from the Giants being certain they will sign him, to CC turning down the Yankees offer, to the Yanks moving on to A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe. Full story

Next Target: A.J. Burnett

I was hoping against hope that the Atlanta Braves were going to save the Yankees from Carl Pavano Part II, otherwise known as A.J. Burnett. They still may, but this report says the Yanks are preparing an offer to top the Braves' reported 4 year/$60M deal with a vesting option for the fifth year. Full story

The Franchise Ends On A Good Note

Phil Hughes' final start of the season couldn't have possibly gone better. In what will undoubtedly be a wasted year for the kid, a season which saw him battered, injured and relegated to AAA, Hughes bounced back in a big... Full story
